Dr. Martin BeggsDr. Beggs hales from Texas. He completed his General Surgery Internship in 1990 and Residency in 1994 at the University of Texas' M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. His Cardiothoracic Surgery Residency was under the direction of Dr. Denton Cooley at the Texas Heart Institute, where he was awarded the prestigious Denton A. Cooley Cardiovascular Surgical Society Award in 1996. The Texas Heart Institute has been a leader in surgical innovations. Among these are the first successful heart transplantation in the U.S., the first implantation of an artificial heart in man in the world, breakthroughs in the treatment of infants born with congenital defects, effective methods of preventing heart attacks by reducing the formation of blockages in the arteries, and the implantation of devices to assist in the pumping ability of the heart (LVAD). Dr. Beggs draws from this extensive experience and interest in thoracic and pulmonary medicine, enhanced by his past affiliation with M.D. Anderson, to provide his patients with the most comprehensive patient care.

Dr. Beggs held a clinical instructor appointment in General Surgery and Trauma at the University of Texas Medical School. He serves on the Cardiovascular QI Committee at Sarasota Memorial Hospital and the Surgical Care Review Committee at Doctors Hospital of Sarasota. Dr. Beggs is a founder of the Minimally Invasive Cardiothoracic Surgery Center of Sarasota and remains active in clinical research.
